Leverage allows you to trade with more capital than you currently have in your account. While it can amplify your profits, it equally amplifies your risks and costs.
1. What is Leverage?
Leverage is a tool that multiplies your buying power.
- Example: With 10x leverage, you can control a
10,000position∗∗usingonly∗∗1,000 of your own collateral (margin).
The Formula: Position Value = Margin × Leverage
2. How Leverage Affects Your Risk
The higher the leverage, the smaller the price movement needed to trigger a liquidation.
| Leverage | Price move to Liquidate* | Return on 1% Move |
| 2x | -50% | 2% |
| 10x | -10% | 10% |
| 20x | -5% | 20% |
| 50x | -2% | 50% |
| 100x | -1% | 100% |
| *Note: This is an estimate. Actual liquidation occurs slightly sooner due to maintenance margin requirements. |
3. Leverage and Trading Fees
It is important to remember that trading fees are calculated on the total Position Value, not your margin.
- If you use 10x leverage, your entry and exit fees will be 10 times higher than a trade with no leverage. Always factor this into your profit calculations.
4. Leverage Tiers & Limits
On WOO X Pro, the maximum leverage available depends on the size of your position.
- For very large positions, the maximum allowable leverage is reduced to ensure market stability.
- If you find you cannot increase your leverage, check the [Leverage Tiers Table] to see the limits for that specific trading pair.
How to Adjust Leverage on WOO X Pro
- Go to the Order Entry panel on the Futures trading page.
- Locate the Leverage Slider or the numerical value (e.g., 20x).
- In Isolated Mode: You can adjust leverage for an active position to change its liquidation price.
- In Cross Mode: The leverage slider acts as a "limit." Your Effective Leverage is determined by your total account equity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I set my leverage to 100x?
Maximum leverage is restricted based on the trading pair and your total position size. High-volatility assets or very large positions have lower leverage caps to protect you from instant liquidation.
Does changing leverage for an open trade cost money?
No, changing the leverage setting itself does not cost a fee. However, in Isolated Margin, increasing leverage "releases" margin back to your wallet, while decreasing it "locks" more margin into the trade.
Why was I liquidated so quickly?
If you used high leverage (e.g., 50x or 100x), even a tiny price fluctuation (1-2%) against your position can trigger a liquidation. We recommend beginners stay below 5x leverage.
