What are network fees?
Whenever you send cryptocurrency from one address to another, a network transaction fee—often simply called a network fee—is required. This fee is paid to the blockchain network to record and validate your transaction on the public ledger.
Network fees vary depending on the blockchain you use. For example, fees on Bitcoin differ from those on Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, or Litecoin. Some blockchains also require a secondary token (often referred to as “gas”) to pay for transaction fees—such as ETH for Ethereum transactions.
Why are network fees necessary?
On blockchains that use proof-of-work (PoW), such as Bitcoin, miners gather, verify, and package transactions into blocks. When a miner successfully validates a block, they receive block rewards, which include network fees paid by users.
These fees serve two important purposes:
They incentivize miners/validators to maintain and secure the network.
They prevent spam and malicious activity by making it costly to send meaningless or extremely high-volume transactions.
How are network fees calculated?
Network fees fluctuate based on:
When you send a transaction, it first enters the mempool (memory pool), where it waits to be picked up by miners or validators. When the network is busy, the mempool can become crowded. In such cases, miners prioritize transactions with higher fees, meaning users may need to pay more for faster confirmation.
If you choose a lower fee during congestion, your transaction may be delayed until the network processes higher-priority transactions first.
Some technical factors can also lower your fees. For example, SegWit transactions usually cost less because they require less data to be processed.
How are fees calculated on WOO X Pro?
There is no simple manual method for calculating network fees, as they constantly change with market conditions.
Your WOO X Pro wallet will automatically calculate and recommend an appropriate fee based on current network circumstances.
